Graduate Management Admission Council, which owns and
conducts the prestigious Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) for
admissions to 6,500 programmes globally, will promote Indian MBA institutes in
27 countries.
IIMs of Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Indore and business
schools closer home such as NMIMS and SP Jain have collaborated with it for the
purpose.
"Our surveys show that the political changes
globally and talks against globalization which is kind of promoting a
nationalist agenda have raised concerns in the minds of aspiring students. We,
therefore, wanted to explore alternative destinations for international
students, particularly India as it is also one of the emerging economic
powers," said Sangeet Chowfla, president and CEO of GMAC.
A recent survey done by the council reveals that a
fourth of non-US citizen business school candidates who considered US as a
study destination are not planning to apply to any graduate business
programmes.
While currently nine institutes have collaborated in
the initiative, the council may cover more institutes in near future. "We
have carefully selected the countries where we are planning to promote Indian
management education based on the demographics and interests of students (see
box) . We also have data on students' mobility from time to time," he
added.
Study in India, as the campaign is called, is expected
to build and strengthen preference for Indian B-schools in relevant
international markets. Aspirants from the selected 27 countries will be able
log on to the Study in India website— www.mba.com/studyinindia — and get the
option to secure admission in any of the nine partner B-schools in India using
their GMAT scores. The first level of the study in Indian programme will
include promoting the country and dealing with issues of visas, cost of study,
and the second level will be B-school-specific with videos portraying life on
Indian campuses, food and accommodation. From Mumbai, NMIMS and SP Jain
Institute of Management and Research are on the list of Bschools which are
collaborating with GMAC.
