Centre to soon start PM scholarship worth Rs 75,000
per month for meritorious students: Prakash Javadekar
Javadekar
also exhorted the students to become good human beings apart from gaining
knowledge and skills.
Talented 1,000 students will now get a scholarship
worth Rs 75,000 per month under the ‘Prime Minister scholarship’. Human
Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar on Thursday while
addressing the convocation ceremony at Manipal University in Jaipur, announced
that meritorious students soon will be rewarded with this scholarship.
Javadekar was quoted by IANS as saying, “We are starting the PM Scholarship, a
note will go to the Cabinet soon… (under which) best 1,000 talented students
will get Rs 75,000 per month now.”
Javadekar also exhorted the students to become good
human beings apart from gaining knowledge and skills. Speaking about Prime
Minister Narendra Modi’s New India campaign, he said that the prime minister
believes in the power of youth and is passionate about improving the standard
of education in the country. While addressing the convocation ceremony, the HRD
minister also said in order to improve educational standards in the country,
the government has proposed to spend Rs 20,000 crore, so that students can
study here and contribute to the nation. Javadekar said the Centre aims to
establish 20 world-class universities in the country which will be ranked among
the top 200 varsities in the world.
Explaining the three reasons behind the brain drain in
the country, the minister said, “I always wonder why our best of the best
brains go to foreign countries – because they have three difficulties here.
First, in foreign countries they get best of the best research labs, then they
get best of the scholarships so they can survive and maintain themselves, and
then they get the best guidance,” reported IANS. He added that now government
is looking to bring all these three things together here.
